The First Look

I remember the first day I received the illustrations of my book. I was anxious and didn’t know what to expect. They were simple lined outlines of the ideas of both me and my illustrator’s thoughts combined. There were things that I changed, but I remember being mostly happy with the illustrations and formatting that my illustrator had construed. It was the first time seeing my story have some kind of life and seeing how it possibly could be for the future. I think this step was one of the easiest and also one of the hardest.

It's hard to see forward from the sketches and rough drafts sometimes. I was always aware that colour was going to be added but in my mind I had limited the project. I didn’t know how different the pieces would be once colour was added, and my was I blown away!

When the colour was added, I knew this was it. My illustrator asked me for colour options, but I wasn’t too sure what I was looking for, so I told her to choose and for my personal taste, she excelled expedicously.  I am overjoyed with how the colouring of the book turned out. It allowed me to see it differently. I officially saw it as something I would pick up in a store and pick up for my niece or nephew. That was when I knew it was done.
